DETERMINATION OF ACTIVATION ENERGY OF POLYMER COMPOSITES USING DYNAMIC MECHANICAL ANALYSIS

Abstract:
The activation energy is determined by analysis of visco-elastic response of the composite when subjected to sinusoidal excitation. The activation energy associated with the glass transition relaxation has been determined by using the three-point bending clamp provided in the recently introduced Netzsch DMA 242 E Artemis dynamic mechanical analyzer. In the present study, dynamic mechanical analyzer was used to characterize two different types of composite materials. The activation energy for both materials was determined using Arrhenius relationship from dynamic properties measured at different frequencies. In this study mathematical expression showing the dependence of modulus measurements on the sample properties. The experimental results showed that the evaluation of activation energy is affected by the heating rate and test frequency, as well as the criterion by which the glass transition temperature (Tg) is established. In the present study was been made compare on the activation energy based on the loss tangent (tanδ) peak, on the loss modulus (E2) peak and storage modulus (E1) peak.
